Types of Drainage Systems

Potable Water System

This type of systems bring water into buildings. There is a valve on the main used to shut off the water supply from each building. A main pipe leads to a network of pipes that then distributes the water to different parts of the building. A meter keeps track of how much total water enters the building.

Sanitary Drainage System

This type of system is used to remove waste water from a building. This systems uses pipes to take out human waste as well as water from normal human life such as water from washing the dishes. The sanitary drainage system is connected to a series of pipes that go through the roof vertically.

Stormwater Drainage System

The stormwater drainage system is used to carry stormwater away from the building. Back in the old days, rainwater just goes straight tyo the sanitary drainage system but now the water just goes into a separate system leads the water into the community stormwater sewers. Gutters are mainly used for this and are normally seen outside the building.
